Conduct During Activities and Class Time

At the start of class (before you do anything else), please put your bag on the floor, get your notes and a pen out and ready on your desk. have your homework ready to be checked and, if there is any spare time at the beginning of class) take a moment to review your notes and discuss any questions you have with your classmates. During class, you are expected to record all notes given. Remember that you are expected to know anything that comes up in class –including all words that come up in class. A big part of your course is learning the language of the subject, so terminology is always important.

All students are expected to act responsibility and take an active role in all class activities. You are expected to work on activities during class time and not use it to socialize, sleep, or anything else that is not productive.  You need to make sure you are in proper school uniform with your ID visible. Please be careful to not vandalize school property or lean back on your chair, as this can also damage the chairs.

Each student should ask at least one question and answer at least one question every lesson. (This Q and A can be with another student or with the teacher).

Attendance

You are expected to attend every class.

If you are absent

It is your responsibility to make up all the work you missed. Get all notes and find out what handouts and assignments you missed from a classmate. Ask a classmate to explain notes and assignments. See me if you have any questions about the material and/or assignments. Also, if you miss more than 10% of classes, you risk failing the course.

Lateness

You are expected to be on time for every class and to begin work immediately after the bell. If you were talking to a teacher and that is why you were late, please get a signed note from them with the date and time on it. Otherwise, tardies will be recorded as either less than five (5) minutes late or more than five (5) minutes late.

You are tardy if you enter the class after the bell has rung.

Preparation

You expected to be prepared for every lesson (to bring your binder, your notes, your pen and paper, your text book and your readings). Needing to borrow materials (i.e. paper, pen) from other students also means you were not prepared.

Part of being prepared is not needing to leave class. We generally don’t allow students to leave class to go to the bathroom, to their locker or to print out work.

Academic Honesty

See school rules, as outlined in the Student Handbook.

When Class is Over

Be sure you record the homework given and tuck in your chair before you leave in an orderly manner. Make sure you attempt all parts of any homework assignment. When you do not have assigned homework, take some time to read ahead in your textbook, to review your notes, to work on your mnemonics and consider questions you could ask during the next lesson. Of course, make sure to, not only do the readings, but to also take notes on them.

When you find out about a test, I recommend compiling a summary sheet to help you study. Keep these, along with your pink practice sheets, as they will help you prepare for your exams.

I hope for the very best for you in this course. I consider it a privilege to work with you, as your teacher. You’ll find that I have very high expectations of you. But, if you find I’m asking a lot, that’s only because I think you’re capable of a lot. And, as Seneca said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” I know you’ll have some opportunities to do great things in your life and I want you to be prepared when those moments come up.

Please feel free to speak with me any time about anything. I am a teacher because your success is important to me, so please make sure to seek help when you need it.
