CAS and Your TOK Class
- Your TOK teachers supervise the CAS progress for the grade 11 & 12 TOK students they teach.
- This involves: helping them set up their CAS program, monitoring their CAS progress (reporting ‘at risk’ students to the CAS Coordinator), reading and marking reflections three times a semester; interviewing and advising students about the status of their CAS commitment; keeping records of reflection marks and interviews; entering results online.
- The CAS Coordinator (Miss MM) will oversee and advise the CAS supervision duties.
Grade 11—Semester 1 CAS Requirements:
CAS Requirements:
By the end of Semester 1, you should have completed a total of 2 components, with at least one component in two areas of CAS. Keep in mind that you need complete your CAS by Decemeber 2012 (Semester 1 Grade 12).
End of Semester 1 Grade 11: 2 component, covering at least two areas of CAS
End of Semester 2 Grade 11: 5 components, with at least one in each area of CAS
Beginning of Semester 1 Grade 12: 7 components with at least 2 in each area of CAS
End of Semester 1 Grade 12: 9 components with 3 in each area—CAS Completed
Reminders:
- Build evenly in each area: C, A, S
- Don’t over commit – you need to make sure you have time to study!
- Don’t under commit—making up CAS in a hurry is HARD
- Plan well, join clubs early, don’t wait until it is too late, and take advantage of all the activities happening at school.
- Remember
- you must do at least one SOCIAL SERVICE club in your 2 years (a list of these is below)
- you also need to be involved in at least one activity of global importance
- you need to show initiative — plan and organize at least one of your activities—this can be done individually or in a group
- You must participate in your club consistently in order to get credit for it
- Keep the due dates somewhere important—you must hand things in on time
- If you do not reflect on your activities, you do not get credit for them
- Reflection is more about what you are learning than just what you are doing (see reverse side for more about writing reflections)
Social Service Activities:
- Bishan Home
- Read to Reach
- MINDS
- RDA
- Or, any outside activity working with a service group in Singapore (speak to Mrs Mares to confirm it’s okay).
More CAS information (from Miss Mares Manton’s talk)
1 component is worth 15–20 hours
Half a component is worth 7 to 10 hours.
A social service is outside the school, with a sharity organization, working with people.
Global importance is something that is good for the whole world.
Leadership is planning or taking initiative.
- You need to submit a proposal before the activity takes place.
- Then you’ll need to make sure you get attendance verfication from the person leading the group and that your yellow sheet gets filled in. You’ll need to submit these after the activity.
